It was in 1889, at the Exposition Universelle in Paris, that Herminie Cadolle presented her latest invention: the Bien-être. A corset cut in half to free the solar plexus of women of the time. The bosom is now supported from above, suspended by straps. This was nothing less than the very first bra. Herminie Cadolle would later register her patent, and the next six generations of Cadolle's family would continue to create bras for women in keeping with fashion and the times, perfecting them throughout their lives.
